Seul dans l'espace, un astronaute survit en orbite autour d'une Terre désertée. Des messages lui parviennent dans une langue qu'il ne comprend pas, et ses tentatives de communication avec le reste du monde se soldent toutes par des échecs. La possibilité d'accoster une station spatiale lui offre l'opportunité de partir à la recherche de nouvelles sources d'oxygène. Une ressource devenue rare. Alors, durant son cheminement au travers de cette station nommée Bab-L, il sera confronté à cette chose en voie d'extinction, le dialogue, la communication...

Alone in space, an astronaut survives in orbit around an abandoned Earth. He receives messages spoken in a tongue he does not understand, and all his attempts to return communication with the rest of the world end in failure. Coming across an deserted space-station, call-sign "Bab-L", the possibility to discover a source of oxygen drives him on. A resource that has become scarce. It is thus, that his exploration of this station puts him face to face with the dilemma of human speech, the intricacies of language and communication.
